The Longest Drive - Our Golf Day

Yesterday (31st July) we were joined by enthusiastic golfers for our second Golf Day. We watched in trepidation as dark clouds began to gather in the morning, with the forecast of thunderstorms threatening to write off play for the day. The weather held off, though, and whilst some of our guests got a little damp out on the furthest reaches of the Longcliffe Golf Club course, their spirits remained intact.

As the various teams returned to the Clubhouse it became clear that everyone had enjoyed a great day of golf with lots of praise for the Longcliffe course. Attention soon switched to the Test Match which was in its final stages, and a great roar erupted around the widescreen TV as Stuart Broad bowled his last ever ball in Test cricket to dismiss Alex Carey and win the Ashes for England. Over the dinner that followed, our in-house Mr Golf, Jordan Wong, stood up to thank everyone for a great day, and to remind all of our guests of our mission at CH, which includes helping our clients to live a great life. Our Chairman, Andy Jervis, congratulated everyone on their performance before letting everyone know about our new Foundation and how they could support it. An excellent meal provided by Paul and his team at Longcliffe rounded off the day nicely, and everyone left on a high after an excellent day's entertainment. Congratulations to our prizewinners on the day, including Longest Drive, Nearest the Pin, and Top-Scoring Team. We had some great performances from our talented guests. Events like our Golf Day are our way of giving back to our clients, helping to create their 'great life', and introducing our unique way of working to a wider audience. One of the qualifications for inclusion was that everyone had to bring a guest, and that led to lots of conversations about possibilities for a business relationship. As all of our clients already know, we're not about to start the 'hard sell', and the reason for that is that we've discovered the best way to inform people about what we deliver is to let them experience it. In that way, conversations turn into questions, questions turn into meetings, and meetings turn into relationships. It's a 'slow burn' style that seems to keep on working for us and our clients. We asked our team to make a note of comments made on the day. Here's a selection:

  • "I’ve had a really great day out and hope we can do it again soon."

  • "I love the family feel of the company and that we are all so welcomed" (and even hugged on arrival!)

  • "You can see that the great leadership and culture of the company has been passed down to all members of staff in the firm."

  • "It was a really fun day, on a great golf course, with great company."

  • "I got to meet lots of like-minded people and everyone was so friendly – even other clients of yours."

Thanks to all of our team members who turned out on the day, to our clients and guests for taking part, to Paul and the Longcliffe team for their hospitality, and to the groundskeepers at Longcliffe for creating such a great place to play golf.
